Seemingly finished (for the time being) with chronicling his intimate family tragedies (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius) and the vast horrors of modern genocide (What is the What), Dave Eggers recently turned his predilection for star-crossed protagonists towards Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a Syrian-American hardware-store owner and landlord living with his family in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. While his wife and children evacuated the city in August 2005, Abdulrahman stayed behind to watch over his house and store. Written by Eggers in its protagonist's voice (as he did in What is the What), Zeitoun follows the consequences of Abdulrahman's fateful choice. Today, Eggers reads from and discusses the people and places in the book, with book sale proceeds benefiting 826 Valencia.
