As the singer of Mclusky, Andy "Falco" Falkous came across as the cleverest smart-ass in detention. But, up until now, his latest noise-punk outlet Future of the Left seemed burdened by his previous success rather than being able to expand upon it. June's Travels With Myself and Another showcases not just now-airtight interplay, but a poignant shot of existential dread, doing grapple with Falco's usual serrated guitars and hilarious non sequiturs. "Lapsed Catholics" begins with Falco cursing himself for confusing Jacob's Ladder with Shawshank Redemption, then transforms into a blitz of distorted riffs and anguished pleas for longevity. Like most of Travels, it's at once a step forward and a reclamation of past glory.
