In a summer schedule blanketed with music festivals and craft fairs, the Fillmore Jazz Festival stands out not only for its focus on community over commercialism, but also for the quality of its artists. The three free stages stretching from Jackson to Eddy make the Fillmore — once the country's Western capital for jazz — ring out with traditional standards, innovation, and progressive fusion, while highlighting the likes of Marcus Shelby, Spencer Day, Lavay Smith, and Sila and the Afrofunk experience.
