Eileen Myles has never been content to be penned in as a writer, frequently switching between poetry, novels (notably, Cool for You), and performance-based projects such as the touring female spoken-word series Sister Spit. Myles puts her creative restlessness to good use in The Importance of Being Iceland, a set of wanderlust-inspired essays and reflections. Her peripatetic approach to the travel memoir includes Russia's queer underground, the Cape Cod trails of Thoreau, a poetry writing how-to, and an extended reflection on Icelandic pop star Björk.
