Founded by the interdisciplinary art collective Rebar, PARK(ing) Day is a playful, one-day event encouraging San Franciscans to rethink their city's urban landscape. Focusing on that nemesis of city drivers everywhere — the metered parking space — Rebar, along with the Trust for Public Land, has created a DIY manual to assist ordinary citizens in converting individual parking spaces into temporary mini-parks. Photos from last year's spectacle reveal the creative use of sod rolls, lawn furniture, hula hoops, and potted plants; this year, Rebar urges urban dwellers around the world to re-green their cities, one meter at a time.
