CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts says…

Moby Dick has long been a springboard for grand considerations of everything from transcendental philosophy to racism and political upheaval. Melville's classic is the inspiration behind the Wattis' whale of a new show, which follows on The Wizard of Oz, the second in a series of group shows inspired by great American novels. Highlights of the maritime-themed collection include Kenneth Anger's 16mm sailor-filled fever-dream Fireworks, Hiroshi Sugimoto's expansively minimalist gelatin silver prints of seemingly endless seascapes, actual 19th century examples of scrimshaw, and Rockwell Kent's original engravings from a 1930 edition of the book.
