Local punks-turned-multi-platinum-Grammy-winners Green Day are returning to their Berkeley stomping grounds, but not how you'd expect. Collaborating with Spring Awakening director Michael Mayer, Green Day are presenting the world premiere of American Idiot, the musical. Although the band themselves won't be walking the boards, their anthemic brand of punk (played by an in-house band) drives this ambitious stage production based on their album American Idiot, and its follow-up 21st Century Breakdown.
