Working on the cutting edge of the art world from the '50s until his death in 2008, local polymath Bruce Conner expanded what counted as art in both form (A Movie, a brilliant amalgam of soft-core porn and b-movie excerpts, contained not a stitch of original material) and substance (his still controversial Child, a wax figurine yelling out in agony while strapped to a chair). Gallery Paule Anglim's retrospective focuses on the quieter side of Conner, highlighting his enigmatically erotic nylon sculptures and hieroglyphic-like acrylic sketches.
