Attending the SF Fringe Festival is a bit of a crapshoot by design: coveted performance slots are awarded by chance via a lottery, and the resulting 43 pieces come from places as exotic the tiny Pyrenees principality of Andorra and as mundane as Bakersfield. While some duds are inevitable in a festival this large, the majority of Fringe productions come right from our own back yard, meaning that zaniness and innovation won't be in short supply. Where else can you catch a love triangle involving a man, a woman, and a cat (I Prefer Fur); a carnie memoir of bearded womanhood (A (Bearded) Lady); or a musical version of what is arguably the greatest American horror film of all time (The Texas Chainsaw Musical!)?
