Doubt drags so much award hardware behind it, each new staging seems gilded-by-association. Now, the LGBT-friendly New Conservatory Theater is generating 24-karat controversy with its production of the fear-driven drama in which allegations of a priest-altar boy dalliance at St. Nicholas school prove to be more about power than sexuality. Scarlett Hepworth's accusatory nun out to ruin a priest's career rivals even Meryl Streep's performance in terms of sheer iciness.
