Mary Iverson: Frontier

In Mary Iverson's landscapes, primary-colored shipping containers are nestled within Hudson River school–influenced landscapes. It's a meeting of two worlds: the pastoral and the industrial. By situating such symbols of 20th-century global trade within lush, natural settings modeled after and appropriated from paintings of the late-19th century, Iverson points to the logical end of Manifest Destiny: our current post-globalization economy.
