Saints are odd role models, amalgams of historical fact and divine intervention whose exemplary nature is inseparable from the aura of apocryphal mystery that surrounds them. Thus, to strive toward saintliness is an asymptotic endeavor. The individual creation of universal ideals, and the curious communal mythology this process creates and draws from is at the heart of Santos y Otros Creatures, a new exhibit by the impressive cadre of developmentally disabled artists of Creativity Explored. The exhibit features an intriguing assortment of print techniques depicting saints, icons, and divine beings drawn from Byzantine art, Mexican folklore, and ecclesiastic calligraphy.
