Zoë Yuristy
Feb 12, 2010 – Mar 6, 2010
Wednesdays–Saturdays (1–6pm)
Directions: One half block east of 16th St Mission BART
"Alternorthern," curated by Kevin Betram and Jason Gowans, features the work of Sonny Assu, Valerie Boxer, Vincent Chevalier, Brendan Fernandes, Jenny Gag, Michael Love, Jon Sasaki, Until We Have a Helicopter, and Zoë Yuristy.
The exhibition showcases emerging Canadian multidisciplinary visual artists, bringing together work that exemplifies currents in the contemporary art of that country. As the show is mounted during a very interesting time in Canada — the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver — many of the stereotypes, symbols, themes, and political workings of the country will be disseminated into the U.S. media, giving Bay Area audiences a framework within and against which to view the work.
Opening reception: Friday, February 12, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Includes a brief curator talk, artist Q & A, and screening of the Olympic opening ceremonies.
