Cooking with the Scribe
Tuesday Feb 23, 2010 (4–6pm)
Directions: 736 Mission Street, between 3rd and 4th Streets.
$20/$25 Members/General. Advance tickets required. Space extremely limited.
The CJM's scribe, Julie Seltzer, demonstrates the connections between food and text by combining a personal tour of her scribal workshop with study of the holiday of Purim and a session baking traditional hamentashen cookies.
Before becoming a scribe, or soferet, Julie Seltzer was a baker at the Isabella Friedman Center in Connecticut. Among her culinary achievements was a series of challah breads evoking Hebrew letters, or a theme from the weekly Torah reading.
