Famed media theorist Douglas Rushkoff recently mused that what new media outlets offer are entirely new perspectives for relating to our world. YBCA's cutting-edge exhibition of the Global Lives Project — a video library capturing 24 continuous hours in the lives of ten people from around the world — delivers such perspectives, highlighting how the shrinking of distance under globalization both shapes and is shaped by media technology. To further help us grapple with the nuance and complexity of it all is this free day-long program of presentations and discussions around such topics as Mediamaking as Public Sociology and Psychological Research into Empathy and Prosocial Behavior. YBCA director of community engagement and award-winning author Joël B. Tan chairs.
