SF's drag community had its collective breath knocked out of it in 2003 when Fauxnique (aka Monique Jenkinson) was the first biologically female "faux queen" to win the coveted title of Miss Trannyshack. And for good reason too: Fauxnique's performances — in which her formal dance training is on display nearly as often as her makeup skills — are laser-sharp, frequently hilarious, and beautiful to behold. In Jenkinson's revamped production of her most recent solo show, Luxury Items, she turns her mascara-ed gimlet eye to commodity fetishism: designer and counterfeit handbags come to life; perfume ads are dissected via voguing; and Marxism is brought into dialogue with The Pajama Game (1957).

Note:

The Thursday, February 4 performance is pay-what-you-can.

CounterPULSE says…

Back by popular demand, performance artist, dancer, and 2009 Guardian GOLDIE award winner, Monique Jenkinson, further develops and remounts her sold-out show Luxury Items for three weekends of revelatory, extravagant performance about the addictive properties of the ephemeral, our guilty pleasures, and the tyranny of comfort. Originally developed and performed for a sold-out weekend at ODC, Luxury Items sees Monique Jenkinson return to CounterPULSE, where she has been developing work as an artist in residence since 2007.
