Rolling into its twelfth year, SF's Independent Film Festival continues to bring the best, finest, and weirdest indie films to the Roxie's screen. This year's highlights include Last Son, a documentary portrait of Superman's co-creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (whose fictionalized exploits also inspired Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay); Toshiaki Toyoda's Blood of Rebirth, a demons-versus-man epic set in medieval Japan; and No One Knows About Persian Cats, an unprecedented look at Tehran's underground indie rock scene, as seen through the eyes of two young Iranian ex-convicts who form a band.
