SOMArts says…

SOMArts Cultural Center’s Main Gallery invites the public to experience Prints Byte: the cutting edge of printmaking, an exploration of experimental, digital, and installation-based printmaking.  Bay Area printmaking has inherited significant legacies of experimentalism and innovation, both in the arenas of aesthetics and political activism, and in today’s digital moment, printmaking continues to thrive and grow in new directions.  Co-Curated by Justin Hoover and Hanna Regev, Prints Byte looks at new ways that the field of printmaking is redefining itself with new technologies, new processes and new direction. Prints Byte features 30 local artists, including Michael Bartalos, Jessie Bunn, Victor Cartagena, Enrique Chagoya, Alejandra Chaverri, Antonio Cortez, Rob Delamater, Christina Empedocles, Juan Fuentes, Nancy Genn, Katie Gilmartin, Grady Gordon, Art Hazelwood, Mary Daniel Hobson, Christina Loya, Juan Luna-Avin, Javier Manrique, Barbara Milman, Kara Maria, Yuzo Nakano, Penny Nii, Kamau Amu Patton, Favianna Rodriguez, Jos Sances, Lorna Stevens, Travis Summerville, Seiko Tachibana, Kazuko Watanabe, Christine Martinez Weibel, and The Great Tortilla Conspiracy. Participating institutions include Chrysalis Print Studio, Creativity Explored, Electric Works, Kala Art Institute, Magnolia Editions, and Mission Cultural Center’s Mission Grafica.
