Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a psychedelic mind-trip of epic proportions. The creepy black comedy/musical — based on Roald Dahl's marvelous kiddie book — tells the tale of four obnoxious brats (and one charming child) who win golden tickets to tour the titular candy factory. After entering this "world of pure imagination," they embark on a dizzying journey through hallucinogenic boat rides, quadruple-sized magic geese, everlasting gobstoppers, and moralizing, orange-faced dwarves. Gene Wilder's turn as the half-mad chocolatier, along with Wonka's vivid set designs, delightfully low-tech effects, and trippy Oompa-Loompa interludes have made the film an enduring family classic — as well as a late-night stoner favorite.
