7 p.m. Long Play: Bruce Conner and the Singles Collection screening

9 p.m. Performance by My Barbarian Whether reestablishing pagan rites, creating a song cycle for cross-dressing sailors and sequined mermen, or buying a young artist’s soul, LA-based band My Barbarian (Malik Gaines, Jade Gordon, and Alexandro Segade) mixes history, myth, and politics to create flamboyant performance work. Tonight, My Barbarian plays with an eye to the atrium and rock opera. Before the performance, we screen selected works from Long Play (p. 11) by Bruce Conner, Cory Arcangel, Michael Bell-Smith, Dara Birnbaum, Anne Colvin, Christian Marclay, and Pipilotti Rist. The evening also includes hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Free with museum admission.

A brand new series of Thursday night happenings.

Announcing a totally new museum experience!

SFMOMA: Now Playing invites artists to animate SFMOMA in unexpected ways—and audiences to see the museum in a different light. Partygoers will experience the atrium as a projection chamber, a hidden annex as a bar/lounge, food as art and education, and artists playing the architecture. The evenings also include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Come play.
