The apple, the tulip, marijuana, and the potato are the stars of the film adaptation of Michael Pollan's best-selling book, The Botany of Desire. Filmmaker Michael Schwarz begins the film in the Pollan's backyard vegetable garden before journeying to the potato fields of South America, the apple orchards of Kazakhstan, the tulip markets of Amsterdam, and a medical marijuana hot house. Michael Pollan narratives the film, describing the four famous plants' shared histories with corresponding human desire--for sweetness, beauty, intoxication, and control over food production. Michael Pollan and Michael Shwarz will host a discussion after the screening of the film.
