Devendra Banhart has shaved off his trademark beard, but despite his circa-'70s papa-at-a-dinner-party look, he keeps his crown as freak-folk founder. Banhart has lived in California on and off since his teens. He studied at San Francisco Art Institute, but instead of going to class he preferred busking. The 28-year-old headed to Bolinas, to record his seventh full-length album, What Will We Be. Single "16th & Valencia Roxy Music" is inspired by "Love is the Drug" and his many nights roaming the Mission intersection.
