Mary Pearson and Rob Barber, aka best-friend duo High Places, moved from NYC to LA a year ago, in search of brighter weather. There, they started writing and recording High Places vs. Mankind. Despite the sun-kissed lifestyle, it's a darker album: instead of the nature-themed sentiments of their previous work, they explore addiction, break-ups, and mortality, over a dub-twinged bed of euphoric melodies and driving beats. Their explanation? They say they found the nature and warmth they were searching for in LA, so they didn't need to create it via music anymore.
