Allison Smith Fancy Work Quilt Study
Saturday Mar 27, 2010 (1–5pm)
Free with museum admission
Smith’s Arts & Skills Service considers SFMOMA’s original location in the War Memorial Veterans Building and investigates the role the museum played in recruiting artists to teach in the Red Cross’s Arts & Skills program, a series of arts workshops offered to wounded veterans in military hospitals during World War II. Part of SMITHS, the artist’s storefront project designed to spur conversation about craft work past and present, Arts & Skills Service takes up intersections among artists, making traditions, and the war effort.
