When the MSM is as focused on the health care gridlock as Tiger Woods' infidelities, it's easy to forget there is a larger world out there where human rights are not always guaranteed. With this in mind, YBCA's annual selection of films focused on human rights understands that global issues require the world's attention to make any sort of progress. Poignant, moving, and eye-opening, this year's films include, among others, The Glass House, Hamid Rahmanian's harrowing portrait of rehab patients in Tehran; Promised Lands, Susan Sontag's rarely-screened 1974 examination of the ongoing Israeli-Arab conflict; as well as the omnibus 8, which includes shorts by Jane Campion, Gaspar Noé, Gus Van Sant, and others.
