Institute of East Asian Studies says…

The Asian Art Museum's Lords of the Samurai exhibition became a lightning rod for controversy because of the way it framed war culture and its inherent Orientalism. In response, a guerrilla art collective that call themselves "Asians Art Museum" have created a satirical website "Lord It's The Samurai." Their goal? To dismantle the historical sleights of hand present in the original exhibition. Tonight, the collective break their anonymity as communications director Majime Sugiru talks about the censorship of the project by the de Young Museum and the politics at play in the institutional display of Japanese culture.
