“In the 1940s, Angel Walker was a Catholic schoolgirl who lived in the Marina and dreamed of being a nun. By 17, the good girl had turned bad, and was stripping at the Moulin Rouge club in North Beach. After a stint as bassist in topless cover band the Hummingbirds, she moved to Vegas. One of her Sin City burlesque rivals was Tura Santana (of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! (1965) fame), who was famous for twirling her nipple tassels. Angel, now rechristened Satan's Angel, replied with a routine in which she set her tassels on fire and whipped her 42Ds around so fast that she extinguished the flames. Her act took her onstage at Caesar's Palace and in between the sheets with Clint Eastwood and Janis Joplin. Tonight the 66-year-old burlesque trailblazer takes the stage one last time at the DNA Lounge.”
Note:
Tonight's event at the DNA Lounge is a 21 and over event. For details of the rest of Satan's Angel's tour please see the event info.
Satan's Angel says:
Satan's Angel is a legend of burlesque and the queen and originator of fire tassel-twirling. Born and raised in San Francisco, Satan's Angel's career began in North Beach in 1961. She has lit her tassels on fire over 25,000 times all over the world throughout her 40-plus-year career. See her hit the stage one last time. After a world tour this past year, she has decided that her last stop is her hometown, San Francisco.
