“In 1931, in memory of her late husband, Rosalie Meyer Stern donated the Sigmund Stern Grove to the city of SF to be used exclusively for free of charge recreational purposes. It quickly became clear that the Grove's unique terrain and border of eucalyptus trees made the area well-suited to outdoor music. A restored clubhouse and $15 million renovation later, the Grove now hosts up to 20,000 picnickers at each concert, and the first "Sunday at the Grove" marks the official start of summer for many a San Franciscan. Today, Beninese sensation Angelique Kidjo kicks off the 73rd season of the nation's longest-running free outdoor music festival. Dust off that picnic blanket and stock up on some fizzy — summer at the Grove is upon us.”

Every year since 1938, the Stern Grove Festival Association has presented Stern Grove Festival, a performing arts series, in Sigmund Stern Grove, a beautiful outdoor amphitheater located at 19th Ave and Sloat Blvd. This year, Stern Grove Festival will present its 73rd consecutive season, providing the community with the best performing arts, completely admission-free.
