“If you've ever heard screeching violins in your head while stepping into a motel shower, you have Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) to thank. However, this famous movie music moment almost never happened. Composer Bernard Hermann initially rejected the opportunity to score the film. And even after Hermann accepted the job, he often disagreed with Hitchcock — most notably, when the director wanted the infamous shower scene to be completely silent. Hermann worked on the scene in secret, and was surprised when Hitchcock loved the result. Tonight, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this auspicious marriage of shower-victim-screaming, knife-jabbing, and all-string orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony performs Hermann's score live along with the film.”
Note:
Arrive one hour prior to the concert for music and dancing with the Martini Brothers, plus desserts and specialty drinks.
San Francisco Symphony says:
Treat yourself to a night at the movies — with a live symphony orchestra! Bernard Herrmann revolutionized the art of film music with his hair-raising soundtrack to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960). On July 17 the San Francisco Symphony performs the score live alongside Hitchcock's iconic film that changed the silver screen and shocked audiences 50 years ago. Don't miss this opportunity to experience a cinematic classic as you've never seen (or heard) it before!
