The Beatles to Bowie photography showcase is about rock stars and also the people behind the camera. The show includes rare shots taken by the legends of rock 'n' roll photography, including Brian Duffy and Mick Rock. Also featured are never-before-seen photos by Terry O'Neill, an English photographer who accidentally stumbled into his photography career when he took a shot of a man at Heathrow Airport sleeping next to some African chieftains (the prostrate figure turned out to be Rab Butler, a high-ranking government official). O'Neill went on to use his camera to capture icons ranging from the Rolling Stones to the British Royal Family, and married the subject of one of his portraits — Faye Dunaway. Beatles to Bowie opens tonight at the SF Art Exchange, featuring more than 50 photos of rock icons. This is celebrity spotting at its best.
