“Prince Rogers Nelson has gone from musician, to filmmaker, to sex symbol, to unpronounceable symbol, and back — all the while penning boatloads of hits. His film debut, Purple Rain (1984), is a dark musical whose synth-soaked score features "Purple Rain" and "When Doves Cry." The plot is a thinly veiled account of the start of Prince's career. It follows a moody musical genius named the Kid (Prince) gigging at First Avenue in Minneapolis (where Prince got his break) and co-stars Apollonia (Prince's real-life girlfriend). Tonight, expect a lot of skinny ties and purple lingerie when Peaches Christ hosts a screening of the cult classic, complete with an '80s Slut Pageant. Let's get crazy!”
Peaches Christ says:
It's the two-night return of a Midnight Mass classic! On July 2 and 3, Peaches presents the '80s classic Purple Rain (1984), starring Prince, Apollonia, Morris Day, Jerome Benton, with all the fabulous Minneapolis sound and fashion. This Academy Award-winning score contains some of the greatest pop music ever. Besides this being the return of one of Midnight Mass' biggest events, Peaches is also restaging the royally bad-ass purple pre-show, starring Peaches Christ herself, Martiny, and Putanesca in her triple-threat tour de force performance: the infamous '80s Slut Pageant. Wear your finest lingerie and lace while also rocking an authentic '80s look, and you might come away with the crown.
