Documenting one of our country’s most horrific hate crimes, The Laramie Residency puts you first on the streets of a small American town in the wake of a twenty-one year-old boy’s murder, and then revisits the scene ten years later to ask – Has anything changed? Has the town buried its ugly past? 1998, Laramie, Wyoming: Matthew Shepard was beaten, tied to a fence and left to die because he was gay. A month later, The Tectonic Theater Project conducted more than 200 interviews with the townspeople. From those interviews came The Laramie Project, one of the most performed works in the country – giving voice to an outraged America and to the conflicting emotions of a stunned, Wyoming town.
