Agnes Martin
Thursday July 29, 2010 (7pm)
$5 general; free for SFMOMA members or with museum admission (requires a free ticket, which can be picked up in the Haas Atrium).
In Gabriel (1976), this rarely screened film directed by Agnes Martin, the artist delves into a theme that has long predominated in her paintings: nature. With no dialogue, the camera follows a young boy quietly exploring the landscapes of Colorado, California, and New Mexico while relating himself to his environment and to the abstract. Martin reportedly intended her film to be about happiness, innocence, and beauty.
