"Entothusiast" Zenaida Sengo has taught the insect mounting class at Paxton Gate for the past six years. She's also a "reptothusiast" — when she isn't point-mounting arthropods, she is leading activities at Paxton Gate's children's location with the help of her friends Pup, a blue-tongued skink, and Alfy, a ball python. Come benefit from Zen's love of underdog species this month and acquire a new appreciation for the way a Chrysochroa Opulenta beetle or a Madagascar Sunset moth is arranged on a mounting board. Paxton Gate provides the materials and insect specimens, which are pre-softened (to make them pliable for mounting) in sand-filled jars called insect relaxing chambers. All you have to do is spread and pin 'em. Very, very carefully.
