Clear the summer fog and satisfy your appetite for art with a delicious sampling of modern dance. Enjoy wine and hors d'oeuvres and an intimate one-hour performance of some of ODC's most celebrated works. ODC choreographers Brenda Way and KT Nelson will be there to shed some light on the dancing you'll see on stage.
We invite you to take the first step in exposing your child to dance by bringing them to our Family Matinee performance July 31 at 4:30pm where you can meet fellow ODC families and enjoy treats before the show. Youth tickets for ages 16 and under are available for $10.
Waving Not Drowning (A Guide to Elegance) (2010)

Brenda Way's newest work, Waving Not Drowning (A Guide to Elegance), is a wry consideration of fashion, manners and movement that delighted audiences at Dance Downtown last March. Award-winning vocalist Pamela Z loops and layers a 1960s French etiquette text into a witty tuneful work.

"Nelson's choreography bears the company's trade-mark high energy intricacy, the kind of fast-moving and complex work that demands boldness" (Contra Costa Times). A commissioned score by Marcelo Zarvos offers a rousing, rhythmic contrast to the full company's festive lyricism.
