Daddy Longlegs
Wednesday July 7, 2010 (7pm)
$11.00
Directors Ben and Josh Safdie will be at the Roxie IN PERSON, Wednesday, July 7 only, following the 7pm show for a Q&A and to present selections from their impressive body of short films!!
A simple premise – a divorced father spends two weeks with his kids – belies the hypnotic and stunning execution of Daddy Longlegs, the semi-autobiographical debut feature film by Ben and Joshua Safdie.
Ronald Bronstein – noted autuer behind mumblecore's very own Eraserhead, 2007's astounding Frownland – plays Lenny. After months of being alone, sad, busy and free, it's time for Lenny to spend a couple of weeks with his young sons. Shoehorning the youngsters into Lenny's hectic life – let alone his cramped midtown Manhattan studio apartment – proves to be much more difficult than he bargained for. In these two weeks, a trip upstate, visitors from strange lands, a mother, a girlfriend and complete lawlessness seem to take over their lives. The film is a swan song to excuses and irresponsibilities; to fatherhood and self-created experiences, and to what its like to be torn between being a child and being an adult.
