When Harmony Korine, the scriptwriter of Kids and the director of Gummo, was growing up in Nashville, there was a group of elderly people who used to get drunk and hump trash cans in the alley outside his home. For his fifth feature film, he decided to make a movie about them. Trash Humpers follows three elderly vandals as they destroy old electronic equipment, set off fireworks, and fellate dead tree limbs. You won't find this movie in HD — it was shot on a $12 VHS recorder and the guy who edited it is 75% blind in both eyes. Check it out at the Roxie Theater, but be sure to leave your squeamish friends at home.

Roxie Theater says…

Roxie Theater says:

The latest in the infamous line of divisive provocations perpetuated by Harmony Korine (Gummo, julien donkey-boy, Mr. Lonely), Trash Humpers certainly lives up to its title and promise — a nihilist VCR punk assault on sensibility, good taste, aesthetic judgement and all those other institutions your mother and your minister begged you to keep in mind.
