“When Quentin Tarantino was putting together the Kill Bill soundtrack in 2003, he chose a melancholy mariachi-esque song called "Urami-Bushi" for the closing credits. The choice was an homage: the tune, sung by actress Meiko Kaji, was originally the theme song for the Japanese exploitation film series Female Prisoner Scorpion. Kaji also played the titular character Scorpion, who engaged in all manner of catfights and lesbian shower scenes before getting tortured by a prison guard, who poured hot miso soup onto her naked breasts. This kind of thing was popular in '70s-era Japan, which was obsessed by WIP (women in prison) and girl gang movies. Tonight, the bad-girl genre is the subject of Patrick Macias' latest Tokyoscope lecture where you can enjoy a collection of soft porn and ultra-violent film clips, and still come out feeling like you've learned something.”
Note:
The pre-event reception begins at 6pm, where New People will be offering gift bags and beverages from shoju distiller Haamonii.
Join host Patrick Macias (Editor, Otaku USA) for a unique look at sexy stray cats, female prisoners, delinquent bosses, and other captivating and sexy bad girl roles from Japanese cinema. The evening will be complemented by a theatrical screening of the lurid prison film Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion (1972). Adults only due to mature subject matter.
