If you're a fan of the 1994 Mazzy Star hit "Fade Into You," it might be a good idea not to mention it to the band's lead singer, Hope Sandoval. The aloof songstress is notoriously icy to journalists and fans. When a fan called out "I love you Hope" during a Mazzy Star concert in Boston, she yelled back "We don't need you to love us, we need you to shut the f*ck up." Luckily for us, the sour singer is all sweet in song. After Mazzy Star broke up, Sandoval teamed up with with Colm Ó Cíosóig (of My Bloody Valentine) to form the Warm Inventions. The elfin-like chanteuse continues to sing ethereal and hypnotic melodies and has collaborated with everyone from Air to SF's own Vetiver.

Great American Music Hall says…

The delicious dichotomy between darkness and light and the space between inspiration and the manifestation of thought is where Hope Sandoval's music and lyrics catch fire. The Devil Softly, her second album with Warm Inventions partner Colm Ó Cíosóig (My Bloody Valentine), is a rich brocade of pastoral meditations that resonate with the kind of restrained yet provocative intimacy that only these two artists can provide. Well known for their reticence in the media, they've once again chosen to pour out their hearts and minds on record.
