“Of the handful of working photographers who have become household names, Annie Leibovitz may be leader of the pack. She launched her photography career in 1970 as a staff photographer at Rolling Stone, honing the sometime-intimate, sometime-extravagant celebrity portraits that would become her trademark style. During Leibovitz's 13-year stint with Rolling Stone and subsequent work with Vanity Fair, she captured some of her most iconic images — among them, the startlingly beautiful portrait of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, taken only five hours before Lennon's death; a portrait of a nude and pregnant Demi Moore that caused an uproar when it appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair; and a portrait of Whoopi Goldberg in a bathtub full of milk. Now, in the vein of some of Leibovitz's more personally intimate projects, Pilgrimage presents a look at a solo, wandering journey through landscapes — proof that Leibovitz captures the profoundly everyday as beautifully as she captures the profoundly famous.”
Note:
Customers may reserve a spot in the signing line for each copy of Pilgrimage purchased from Diesel.
The photographs in Pilgrimage took Annie Leibovitz to places that she could explore with no agenda. Starting with Emily Dickinson's house in Amherst, Massachussetts, she worked outward, traveling from Niagara Falls, to Yosemite, to the English countryside and even further afield. Filled with images of incredible beauty, Pilgrimage is a deeply personal collection from one of the world's foremost photographers.
