With today's rapidly evolving and perishing trends, staying relevant in rock seems almost impossible. Spanning decades and genres from proto-punk to acoustic pop, Jonathan Richman seems to have effortlessly accomplished this feat without the help of social media or even having merch for sale at his shows. Richman morphed from the youthful leader of The Modern Lovers in 1970 to wide-eyed singer-songwriter pop optimist with an almost cinematic arc. After 21 albums and countless years of crisscrossing the country in a van, Richman and collaborator Tommy Larkins continue to wow crowds with handfuls of songs sung in Spanish and Hebrew, frequent bouts of dancing, and heart-warming storytelling. Almost equally at home in large venues as in-store performances, check out the rock icon tonight as he holds court at the Great American.
