Cartoonist Paul Madonna was MAD Magazine's first-ever art intern. The position was created for him after he submitted a series of drawings chronicling the awkwardness of excusing yourself from social situations when you really have to pee. When he relocated to the Bay Area, Madonna distributed his hand-drawn zines on Telegraph Avenue until he received an offer from the San Francisco Chronicle to bring his series, "All Over Coffee," to its Datebook section. Tonight, celebrate the recent release of Everything is its Own Reward (Madonna's second collection of "AOC" strips-turned stunning hard-bound book), meet the man himself, and scope a selection of his illustrated works along the walls at Madrone.

Madrone says…

Paul Madonna writes and draws "All Over Coffee" in the San Francisco Chronicle and on sfgate.com, and Small Potatoes on TheRumpus.net. In 2007, the first book collection of "All Over Coffee" was published by City Lights Books, and the second collection, Everything Is Its Own Reward, was released in April 2011. Paul regularly travels internationally to draw and his work is shown in museums, galleries, restaurants and cafes, and is published in various book collections and publications, including his international newspaper coverage of the US 2009 Presidential Inauguration. Paul is the comics editor on TheRumpus.net and also teaches drawing at the University of San Francisco.
