Beth Lisick is a poetry slam champion who is a Firecracker Award winner (a book award that no longer exists) and who once opened for Neil Young (a distinction which she calls "funny and terrible"). She started the Porchlight SF storytelling series ten years ago with Arline Klatte, her coworker and cubicle buddy at SFGate. Porchlight has since become one helluva story time, with each show packed to bursting with audience members and onstage talent. Tonight, in a special tribute to the Contemporary Jewish Museum's ongoing Houdini exhibit, Porchlight presents a showcase of real-life, present-day magicians. They share their stories in the usual Porchlight storytelling format — ten minutes, no notes, and no memorization. Just magic, the old-fashioned storytelling way.

Contemporary Jewish Museum says…

In this special, one-time-only Houdini-tribute edition of San Francisco’s popular Porchlight storytelling series, hosts Beth Lisick and Arline Klatte present a cast of magicians, musicians, laymen, and assistants, who brave the audience to confess first-hand accounts of brushes with magic. Storytellers include Stallion, a magic show maestro; and All Things Considered contributor Dayvid Figler.
