For 15 years, the venerated spoken word nonprofit Youth Speaks has been paying annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — not simply as a legend and a martyr, but as a real activist and real man. Youth Speaks works with over 45,000 Bay Area teens annually in in-school and after-school literacy programs and spoken word events. Some of today's most talented young voices are showcased in this 15th Annual Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event. Fiercely articulate slam poets pay respect to the Reverend before what promises to be, as usual, a packed house.

Youth Speaks says…

Our celebration is not a reenactment of speeches, a slideshow, or a polite revue of well-honed platitudes. It is a showcase of young people from throughout the Bay Area who have written, in their own voices, original works that grapple with the thoughts and work of the man, who are working to demand — in their own voices, in their lifetimes — huge leaps into possibility, an ongoing commitment to love like a consuming fire.
