Everyone who was anyone posed for one of Andy Warhol's famous Polaroid series. It wasn't just the hope of your little photo being immortalized as a kitschy, polychromatic silkscreen. To mug momentarily in front of Andy's Big Shot camera meant you were a big shot, crowned by Andy's fixation with "high society." A selection of Andy's Polaroids are currently on view at the Berkeley Art Museum through May 20th. The Andy Warhol: Polaroids / MATRIX 240 series is a mishmash of celebrities du jour. Meet foreign princesses, trendy singers, famous jocks and other fancy folk in various degree of recognizably, depending on your age group. Take a gander at the Warhol stash. Have you seen these people… before?

Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive says…

From 1970 to 1987 Andy Warhol took scores of Polaroid and black-and-white photographs, the vast majority of which were never seen by the public. These images often served as the basis for his commissioned portraits, silk-screen paintings, drawings, and prints.
