“For what has seemed a million lovely years, the Dear Sugar column has occupied a small warm place on the Internet. Dear Sugar is published weekly on The Rumpus but also published into a sort of community called Sugarland — a community of readers and followers who read, respond, and have entire conversations with one another via the comments section. The conversations are almost entirely free of sarcasm or guile, just as Sugar might insist. When Sugar took over The Rumpus' intermittently-published advice column back in 2010, he/she had every intention of taking on a witty, snarky, worldly written persona. But Sugar's down-to-earth sincerity won out, and Sugar's sincerity quickly won him/her a legion of loyal readers. Nearly 100 advice columns into his/her tenure, tonight Sugar unveils his/her identity. Love it? Hate it? Feel uncomfortable? Honey, come out to the party and talk about it.
