Jewish Community Center of San Francisco says…

There are films that mark the history of cinema; a few, rarer ones mark history itself. Claude Lanzmann’s Shoah, from 1985, belongs to both exalted categories. Born in Paris in 1925, Lanzmann survived the German occupation of France, fought with the French Resistance during World War II and has long been the editor of Les Temps Modernes, Jean Paul Sartre's political-literary journal. The 86 year old auteur joins us for a rare Bay Area appearance to discuss his new memoir, The Patagonian Hare, the making of his seminal film Shoah, and his enduring views of the Holocaust. This event is in conjunction with BookFest 2012.
