In fashion, it's not just what you wear; it's how you wear it. This week offers multiple takes on the "how to" part (along with plenty of clothes). Bazaar Bizarre and dotFASHION showcase how underground designers are doing it. Meanwhile, Michelle Tea and company dissect what women really think of it. And the performers at Frolic show you how to work it. Whoever or whatever you're wearing, remember to spread it.

As celebrity-designed clothing lines and Project Runway have shown us, media, fashion, and music have recently achieved an unparalleled synergy. With this in mind, dotClub, the Deep Kiss party founders' latest endeavor, potently combines all three forms. The evening of multimedia hotness includes safety pin- and sequin-festooned designs by B.Rose Clothes, Rachel Z, and Crystalette and pulsing electro sets by DJs LXNDR and LOVERDEad.

The Onion's "articles," ranging from thought-provoking to absurd, have at times been misinterpreted as legitimate news reports. Having recounted a farcical view of history in 1999's Our Dumb Century, the Onion's editors have now set their sights on geography with Our Dumb World: Atlas of the Planet Earth, 73rd Edition. Prepare to be schooled, as Green Apple Books hosts a reading/launch party heavy on the drinking and geopolitics-inspired tomfoolery.

Tonight, the ODC Theater fills with the clatter of castanets and stomping feet, courtesy of Emmy award-winning dancer/choreographer Yaelisa and her company, the Caminos Flamencos. Jardin de Mis Sueños is a program both dreamy and visceral, a series of passionate, skirt-twirling numbers that pay homage to the Spanish nightclubs of yesteryear and the full-blooded dance culture they nurtured. Authentic tapas and hearty rojas will be available for audience members to savor before the show, providing an epicurean touch to this feast of all things Spain.

There is also a family-matinee performance on Sat Dec 15 (3pm).

Mustaches for Kids dares the nation's beard-growers to cultivate their facial hair in the name of raising funds for local nonprofits. This year's beneficiary, the Breakthrough Collaborative, will surely appreciate the efforts of the hundreds of designated "growers," who all have exactly one month to coax glorious 'staches from their lip follicles. Tonight's party, the final night of the competition, features the ultimate measurement of the hirsute contestants' progress, including a beer-foam retention test and other hairy challenges.

Wayward for five years, San Francisco indie-rock vets Imperial Teen have regrouped for The Hair the TV the Baby & the Band, another serving of their playful, flirty pop — this time dotted with musings on life as thirtysomethings (hence the title). Lately, frontman Will Schwartz has been tossing off dance nuggets as Hey Willpower (an album finally hits these shores in January), but Imperial Teen remain the gold-bubblegum standard — no small accomplishment given how poorly much of "Alternative Nation" has held up.

Combining the gender-bending spectacle of drag shows, the scintillating glamour of burlesque, and the humor of classic circus clowning, Frolic's performances at once sizzle and provoke. Hosted by punk-pop vaudeville duo Dreamboat, Where Are You?, this fest features many notable local acts, including burlesque troupe Twilight Vixen Review, Trannyshack legends Suppositori Spelling and Raya Light, and colorful acrobats from Eat Cake Productions. The festival — which completely sold out during last year's run — raises funds for CounterPULSE, a nonprofit venue that fosters the talents of many emerging artists working in dance and other performance arts.

Berkeley-based record label Absolutely Kosher teams up with boutique promoter the Kork Agency for a humdinger of a holiday party at the Hemlock. Fresh-faced and devastatingly ambitious, San Francisco's 60 Watt Kid recently released their eponymous full-length debut and have put together an impressive stage show, treading the territories of both high-octane echo-rock and groovy space jams. Cribbing from the Animal Collective/Panda Bear playbook — as well as that of Mogwai and even the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion — 60 Watt Kid are a band on the brink. The bill also features joke man Neil Hamburger and sensitive, literate singer/songwriter Chris Garneau.

Gift shopping should be fun, not painful. Offering an alternative to the chaotic and impersonal department-store experience, the Bazaar Bizarre gathers together dozens of retailers with a DIY aesthetic and a penchant for using reclaimed materials in their crafts. From handmade jewelry and stationery to a chandelier created from paper cocktail umbrellas, the bazaar offers buyers the chance to shop without the guilt of supporting mass production and consumer waste — and actually have a decent time doing it, too.

Last time we heard from Oakland rap crew the Coup, it was when mastermind MC Boots Riley called in a nasty case of police profiling in San Francisco over Memorial Day weekend. The politics-with-your-party group has experienced controversy before, most infamously when their album Party Music (slated for a release on 9/11, 2001) had to be pulled for its cover shot of Boots and DJ Pam the Funkstress blowing up the World Trade Center. On their last release, the Bush-baiting Pick a Bigger Weapon, the Coup edged their healthy politicking with vintage P-Funk cosmic grooves. Indeed, no other group working today does more to embody the old George Clinton adage, "Free Your Mind... and Your Ass Will Follow."

Thread, the fashion spectacle that draws shoppers by the thousands, is every fashionista's dream. This globally covered fair is a prime opportunity to snag some new pieces from designers such as Electric Barbarella, whose rock 'n roll-inspired outfits have been worn by everyone from Paris Hilton to the cast of The L Word. With more than 100 emerging and established designers selling men's and women's gear, accessories, and jewelry, expect plenty of sass from both the racks and the crowd at this see-and-be-seen event.

Having already thrown some amazing parties, with the likes of Horse Meat Disco and Todd Terje doing guest spots on the decks, the busy bees of Honey Soundsystem keep turning out the sweet stuff. Tonight they share the latest addition to their hive: an astonishing inheritance of over 2,000 records from the original basement archives of legendary San Francisco label Megatone Records. Responsible for launching the careers of local luminaries Patrick Cowley and Sylvester, Megatone made Hi-NRG — an amyl-and-synth-infused faster version of disco — the San Francisco sound. Ever mindful of their local history, the Honey boys are throwing this party in the basement of what was formerly the notorious Sutro Bath House.

Bill Santiago headlines a night of comedy at Nato Green's Laughing Liberally showcase. With a Comedy Central special under his belt, the standup-circuit veteran has made a name for himself with a mile-a-minute, bilingual routine that sends up both sides of his Latin American background. ("Don't you love Spanglish? So many nouns, such little grammar.") Commenting on everything from the recent fracas over driver's licenses for illegal immigrants to a perennial favorite — Jennifer Lopez's rear end — Santiago delivers his material with the warm congeniality of Jackie Mason and the irreverence of John Leguizamo. Will Durst and Aundre the Wonderwoman open.

What do women want? Belle de Jour, Surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel's answer to Sigmund Freud's $64,000 question, is as icily beautiful and teasingly withholding as its star, Catherine Deneuve, resplendent in one of Yves Saint Laurent's many BCBG ensembles. Yes, but what do women really want, besides haute couture? Look into their fantasy lives, says Buñuel taut Freud, and behind the bored bourgeois trophy wife you'll find a happy hooker and eager masochist. However, Deneuve's Séverine is no Sadean naïf and Buñuel is no textbook Freudian. Like the unseen contents of the mysterious box presented to her by a client, Séverine's fantasies of being defiled are but one piece of a puzzle whose sum total the film never fully reveals.

The Market Street Gallery's latest group show explores the potential of that most humble of mediums: paper. Twenty-five local artists salute the two-dimensional form through etchings, drawings, paintings, monoprints, and lithographs. The exhibition includes Sylvia Buettner's playful etchings of animals and deities, Elizabeth Tana's bold, symbolic monotypes, and Marti McKee's stark studies of nudes and figures. Paper! Paper! Paper! also features works from the gallery's staff, including director Ronald Newman's colorful abstractions and Mike Kimball's gritty urban landscapes.

Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi classic has endured multiple iterations, including a heavy-handed hack job orchestrated by studio execs for the film's original release and a revised Director's Cut released a decade later. The film's Final Cut, nearly seven years in the making, contains Scott's definitive edit of the film, as well as remastered footage and revamped special-effects scenes. Among other revelations, the film's newest version addresses the true origin of main blade runner Deckard (Harrison Ford's most iconic role, outside of Han Solo) and includes graphic footage originally omitted from the initial American releases.
